I miss norcal. I miss my norcal friends. I miss the norcal (lack of) traffic. I even miss the norcal weather. What I don’t miss is the norcal attitude. honey, you can keep that to yo’self.
Surely you jest!
BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Hurricane Ivan rips into Alabama
People talk about being scared of living in California with its natural disasters, but good gracious, at least we don’t have to deal with hurricane season….
I’m playing with the latest version of Mozilla, and with the addition of a few extensions, Firefox is catching up to and leapfrogging over the functionality of Opera, my previous browser of choice. I hate to admit it, but I’m almost entirely converted. (see previous post on Opera/IE/Mozilla)
Is this really goodbye, Opera and IE? Yes, Virginia, I believe it may be.
Oh yeah, and Mozilla’s calendar thing is pretty spiffy too.
I thought I was going to blog more about this, but I guess I don’t blog anymore! =P still, does anyone want to make any bets as to if/when this thing will actually happen?
Yahoo! News – No Sign Yet of Predicted Big California Earthquake
So Jer and I finally got married.
Recovering from a wedding weekend, even if it was a really small wedding, is almost as stressful as planning the damn thing in the first place. Our place is slowly returning to its normal, pre-‘Hurricane Wedding’ state, and we’re slowing getting things cleaned out. We also finally opened our wedding presents (!!) this weekend, and finally got all the boxes and wrapping paper out of the apartment.
I’ve never seen so much packaging in my life, not even when I was helping my friend out at his ebay business and he was moving plenty of inventory daily. I’m surprised at how much stuff we got, although I feel rather guilty about how much money people spent on us. We actually got the iPod mini we put on our Amazon registry as a “droooool yeah right!” kind of thing…. (!!!!!). I’m still not entirely comfortable with the notion of a registry, but we got a lot of items we really needed for the apartment (like… silverware.. and glasses… and wine…), so I guess it worked out ok…?
So married life is a lot like engaged life, except now I get to talk about “my husband” instead of “my fiance.” I’m definitely not used to that yet. It’s weird hearing that term coming out of my mouth in reference to a significant other. My exposure to women who refer to their “husbands” generally comes from my hearing my parents’ friends discussing their lives. It’s not a term I feel comfortable owning yet, but I guess I will soon enough.
Okie, time to go home. sorry for the short and sporadic updates… just no time…
1. my crateandbarrel.com registry tells me i have 9 days until the big day! boy, that’s one countdown clock i don’t need.
2. i’m finally beginning to really appreciate the music of the foo fighters. oh dave grohl, were i not already engaged to my lovely fiance…
3. one episode of connections: season 1 acquired; 9 more to go.
4. kitty left a poopy in the kitchen. and a stinky in the bedroom. kitty stays outside tonight.
5. i wish i were at the democratic national convention this year. i think i could have some fun. =) teresa heinz kerry and barack obama: my new favorite pols.
1. I think it’s time to move to typepad. i’ve been way behind on upgrading my MT installs, and the comment spamming is starting to get a wee bit annoying. Plus my site looks really boring with this current design, and I don’t really have time to pretty it all up. So maybe it’s time to make yet another jump?
2. Called about 25 Michelin shops for work today to do a mini technology survey. I introduced myself, told them we were thinking of sending some product materials to the shop and wanted to know whether they had a VCR, DVD player, and/or Internet access at the shop. At least two of them asked me whether I was calling to sell them porn. Porn?? No! The Internet is for porn! Even Avenue Q says so.
3. There are some extremely yummy places to eat in Torrance. I discovered Torrance Bakery in Torrance’s old downtown area today. Hands down, the best cookies I’ve ever had, even better than Diddy Riese. Now that’s a hard act to follow!! If you ever happen to go, make sure you have a chocolate chewy cookie. mmmmmmm. in fact, i’m going to grab one from the cookie sack i took home today right this moment!
[ wipes cookie crumbs off hands sips some milk. ]
4. i think i already told everyone about the new car…
5. yes, you heard right: that is a modest mouse song in that nissan minivan commercial. it’s called “gravity rides everything” and it’s off “the moon and anarctica.” i rewound my tivo to see that commercial again because i couldn’t believe my ears.
6. Fahrenheit 9/11 was very very good. Seeing the 9/11 footage and hearing those awful sounds again made me cry. Seeing Lila Lipscombe grieving for her son did that too. Michael Moore did a good job keeping the film focused on his argument and not being too self-aggrandizing. Critics may say that Moore is lying by taking things out of context, or juxtaposing things unfairly, but the sad truth is that Bush really did say a lot of those stupid things, in as stupid a manner as he did. And those excuses for his non-reaction after Andrew Scott Card gave him the news of the planes crashing into the WTC? Maybe you or I might have continued reading to that classroom of kids, but in this case, as PRESIDENT, his job was to take action. Priorities are really screwed up when the President it is more important for him or her to have a perfect sex life instead of decent leadership skills. But that’s another rant, for another day.
7. I’m actually kind of sad I missed Bill Clinton’s book signing. He was even at Brentano’s! It’s not a huge loss… i’m not really sure i’d wait in line for 4 hours to meet the big guy anyway. now 3….. (just kidding.)
8. Dodgeball was one fscking funny movie. =) Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and half the cast from Office Space. how can you lose?
Just realized today that the spiffy chairs in our office are no ordinary office seats… they are the famed relics of the dot.com era themselves: AERON CHAIRS!

Gosh, i am in geek heaven.
Nice little piece comparing how your 25 cent bet at the seediest Nevada casino’s slot machine is safer and more secure than your vote for President at the E-voting booth in your neighborhood.
