Taiwan has the world’s largest skyscraper!!

You can read a little about it on MSNBC.

I can’t decide if i’m really excited or really scared about this. on one hand, it’s pretty cool that Taiwan, my birth country, has accomplished this feat. OTOH, Taiwan is located along a rather active fault. And it also gets typhoons. And plus it’s Taiwan, which is well known to have some of the shadiest characters you may likely never meet. Incidentally, my aunt and uncle have themselves been the victims of a shady Taiwanese construction company: a building they owned collapsed as a result of shoddy workmanship. No one was hurt, but i think they’re filing a lawsuit against the construction company.

Hmm.. I think i’d like to see this thing before it falls down. I fear that i may want to get there soon. >_

  1. Take me with you when you go to Taiwan! Have you seen a picture of that building around all the other ones? It sticks out like a sore thumb… or like some other erect part of the body. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I read in the SJ Mercury News that it “is designed to withstand wind forces of about 200 feet per second and the kind of catastrophic earthquake that hits every 2,500 years.” That’s my one sharing of wisdom for the day.
